In Roller Coaster Love Yoruba-American producer and Like That Records founder Ase Manual creates a funk-jazz-house mirror world of acid synth reverberation, tempered high-hats and mesmerizing overlaid vocals. Born in Newark, Ase Manual has let his immediate musical environment shape his elegant production and heartfelt performances, inspired by the sounds of Lagos, Nigeria in the early 2000s and the constantly evolving underground Jersey Club, acid and house sounds of his home state of New Jersey, from booty-bounce to hypnotizing melodic jams. He followed his debut full-length “Gems” on Like That Records with popular club single releases and conceptual Afro-futurist remix album of the Black Panther film soundtrack. He’s lent his vivid production to several television shows and ad campaigns, a film by Jonas Windstorms, collaborated with violinist Stephanie Yu on his album Lumi and added a sonic component in collaboration with visual artist Ngu Asongwed.
